As water in the collector is heated, it becomes lighter and naturally rises into the tank above. Then the hot flows into the left tanks. Meanwhile, cooler water in the right tank flows downwards into the collector thus causes circulation throughout the system. Because the cool water is forever below the hot water, so the water in the left tank is always hot. But other non-pressure solar water heaters are different. When the cold water is put into the collector, it flows into the hot water and mixes with hot water directly. So the temperature falls down quickly. The electric heater is in the left tank. When it is needed, only the water in this tank is heated, so it will be heated very quickly and the electricity is saved. |
